Work as a sub-contractor with the Sustainability Team to provide input on a number of projects related to energy management, green building and staff engagement.
Manager, Volunteer Engagement, SickKids Foundation
April 2014 – August 2017
Built and managed a best-in-class volunteer engagement program to support the organization’s strategic priorities.
• Created and implementing a strategy designed to leverage volunteer opportunities to engage partners, community and other stakeholders in meaningful ways.
• Managed 500+ volunteers at a given time; provide volunteer management expertise on events as well as embedding volunteerism into the Foundation’s operations.
• Participated on cross-functional working groups to develop initiatives that support the organization’s values of best-in-class donor experience, excellence and innovation;
• Chair of the Foundation’s Sustainability Committee and also a member of the Hospital’s Sustainability Steering Committee;
• Continually identified opportunities to create efficiencies in workflow; led data management project to migrate volunteer information into a CRM platform;
• Used a coaching style of management for my team while building strong relationships across the organization.
Senior Consultant, MJ Waste Solutions
March 2009 – January 2014
Managed projects that involve developing high level sustainability strategies and in-depth waste management
• Designed and delivered training to develop and implement effective waste diversion programs for both employees and the public
• Compiled research on latest best practices in the area of waste management to inform the development of effective recycling and waste reduction programs
• Conducted comprehensive audits to determine barriers/opportunities related to waste reduction
• Designed and implemented qualitative and quantitative research studies to get a complete picture of a client’s waste generation baseline

Sustainability Engagement Program Lead, Fraser Health Authority
September 2010 – June 2013
Developed and managed an award winning staff volunteer engagement program for healthcare facilities throughout the Lower Mainland (includes 23.5 million square feet of owned and leased facilities and encompasses four health organizations; Fraser Health, Provincial Health Services Authority, Providence Healthcare and Vancouver Coastal Health).
• Delivered a comprehensive, behaviour change program based on the tenants of volunteer management and community-based social marketing; recruited, trained and supported 200+ staff volunteers to run campaigns to promote sustainable behaviours in approximately 190 departments
• Built capacity within the organization and forming strategic, working partnerships with other departments to incorporate sustainability into their processes; e.g. worked with Finance department to go paperless (projected $500,000 per year cost avoidance once complete); also led a strategic planning process to embed sustainability into the Lower Mainland Laboratory Services (approximately 2600 staff).
• Acted as an advisor to Recycling Team on the implementation of a comprehensive standardized recycling program across all acute care and residential care sites in the Lower Mainland (# of sites); provided training and expertise on waste auditing and best practices in waste diversion
• Organized and hosting sustainability events and workshops to all levels of staff (including Executive) on a variety of topics such as energy management, transportation demand management, sustainable food choices and waste management
• Delivered presentations at national and North American wide conferences to promote the Green+Leaders program; recently presented at the BC Hydro PowerSmart Forum, Sodexo Sustainability Conference and Top Employer Summit 2012
• Provided input to team on other initiatives such as sustainable procurement, online social marketing and sustainability reporting framework

Led and managed consulting projects related to sustainable and social procurement. Included policy and program development as well as implementation for a range of clients such across all sectors
• Produced key deliverables such as training and communications materials, best practice research, briefing notes and comprehensive reports for clients such as the City of Vancouver, Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee, BC Hydro and BC Teacher’s Federation
• Led a number of other business initiatives including: managing the development of the company website; hiring, training and supervising new consulting staff; business development support
